Performance show at McCarren Park 2017

Before the formation of DigiAna, current DigiAna organizer Seungjin Lee and current Public Visuals organizer Toru Izumida wanted to host analog, on-site events exploring digital concepts. They rented an open space in McCarren Park, Brooklyn, and held an experimental event.

Seungjin Lee performed a nonsensical rap in front of a projection of sprawling digital imagery layered with glitch effects and fragmented lyrics. Toru Izumida presented an audiovisual work using a collection of beautiful digital archives he had been gathering over time.

Other participants included Shuto Okayasu—an artist still active in New York—who created a massive live painting, and Ken Kobayashi, who delivered an improvised performance combining digital sound and jazz drumming.

Although the event didn’t draw a large crowd, one of the attendees, artist Nicole Salamone, would later go on to play a significant role in the early formation of the DigiAna Group alongside Seungjin Lee.
