Weird collective action workshops

Artist DJ, who has participated in several DigiAna events so far, always presents a unique approach, exploring human behavior and humor in today’s digitalized world. This time, he is hosting an online event to experiment with pure randomness and the sharing of unusual actions, aiming to uncover the potential of our bodies—things we usually don’t articulate or explore in our daily lives.

EVENT RULES

⁃ part 1: explain: what is intuition:

⁃ what is it?

⁃ it cares about you (watching out for you, doing the best for you, has the

best intentions for you)

⁃ it’s your guardian angel, the universe, your gut microbiome, the future, your

subconscious/unconscious thinking, your body’s thinking, a summary of

tons of different channels of info that feed into your body-mind, your loved

ones / ancestors who have passed to the other side

⁃ how to access it / listen to it / connect to it?

⁃ ask a question (in your mind or out loud). it’ll answer - it’s fast, pretty much

instant/immediate - it can be a feeling, image in one’s mind, sensation,

string of words / single word appearing in your mind, anything (some

“message”/meaning/info that you get)

⁃ trust it - and build that trust over time by doing what it says - that strengthens the

connection

⁃ i also love it because it’s against capitalist ideologies about labor and time and

meaningfulness/product/impact, and the intuitive parts of my artworks are often

the most impactive/interesting/creative/transformative (transformative for me and

other people) parts, and it’s not algorithmic

⁃ more about fast thinking: accessing and mixing up associations (subconsciously/

easily)

⁃ questions?

⁃ part 2: explain: what we’re gonna do:

⁃ just do weird misc things on zoom. it’s gotta be weird and intuitively ideated (fast

thinking, not designed towards a specific goal).

⁃ i give a few examples

⁃ i’d like y’all to also perceive/look-at other people’s activities / what they’re doing

(while you’re doing your activity). this is important because i’d like everyone to

share and perceive each others’ weirdness.

⁃ how long will we do the weird activities? as long as it takes for everyone to

acknowledge everyone - it’s important to see/perceive other ppl doing their weird

activities (while doing your own weird activity).

⁃ the first round, we’ll try 7 minutes and see how that feels

⁃ 2 points about making your activity effective / perceived by the rest of the group:

⁃ 1. you gotta really commit to it - otherwise it won’t be perceived as much. in

other words, try really hard.

⁃ 2. camera angle/distance - make sure the group can see the entire activity.

⁃ we want everyone to honor their activities - share it with us (visually/

sonically).

⁃ this stuff is really important because this is the world-building - the camera

input from you is the world/thing that other group members perceive -

please share the weirdness/activities - you decide what world/perception

you wanna create for them.

⁃ part 3: explain: why do this?

⁃ this is weird / a weird situation / a weird experience - it might have no reason or

the reason might be to make a new weird world / memories / shared experience.

⁃ hopefully this is a strange event for us collectively / as a community. it creates a

weird memory in our minds that changes how we think about each other and what

we think of ourselves - because this kind of event/activities usually wouldn’t occur.

⁃ another goal is for this to enter into our unconscious thinking so that it re-emerges

in our ideation/creativity sometime in the future (kinda like self-programming)

⁃ it’s similar to the manga Soil.

⁃ world-building (thru psychology and experience) - we’re making this world a

world in which these silly things happen.

⁃ that world-building kinda opens up new possibilities/imaginations.

⁃ it also just goes against logic - doesn’t need this logic (the world-building thing or

any other reason).

⁃ i wanna allow for silliness in the world.

⁃ part 4: doing the thing:

⁃ take a moment to think about all of the things available to you - all the stuff around

you, in your home - maybe look around you. Also think about concepts you’ve

been thinking about, things you do in your daily life/routine, what you did earlier

today, what you did yesterday, what a parallel dimension version of you might be

doing. This is all just to remind you of possible ideas for activities.

⁃ 2 minutes to come up w a random activity to do for the first round

⁃ ~3 minutes to get any materials that you need for the activity and set the camera

angle (but until everyone is ready, even if that goes over 3 minutes)

⁃ 7 min to do the weird activity

⁃ ask them to say what their weird activities were

⁃ i ask them if all of the durations were too short or too long (so that i can adjust it

for the next rounds)

⁃ if there’s time, repeat this (“part 4”) 1-2 more times
